Aizawl: A 29-year-old soldier from the Assam Regiment died Sunday after a road rage fight in Mizoram. Zakaria Lalhriattluang was heading home on leave when the violence erupted on NH-306 near Bualpui village. He was serving in Jammu and Kashmir and headed to his native New Builum village.
Police said the trouble started after a minor traffic dispute. Zakaria arrived at Lengpui airport earlier that day and caught a ride in a truck driven by his friend, John Laltanpuia. A group of youths from Kawnpui town, returning from a picnic, blocked their path and started the brawl. The soldier died at the scene. Laltanpuia suffered minor injuries during the struggle.
Authorities detained eight people following a complaint from the victim's mother. Superintendent of Police Lalrinpuia Varte confirmed the arrests. Six suspects face a magistrate, and two minors head to the Juvenile Justice Board. The Mizoram Ex-Services League issued a statement after the killing. They said, "It was deeply saddened by the death of the personnel while he was on leave in his home state." The group demanded quick justice for the fallen soldier.
