Nagaland University Hosts Roundtable on Sustainable Farming

Kohima: Nagaland University hosted the Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue roundtable on July 31 at its Medziphema campus. The Department of Rural Development and Planning partnered with the Social Development Forum Assam for the event. The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports backed the gathering under the MY Bharat banner. Attendees included policymakers, scientists, students, and young professionals. They focused on enhancing productivity through smart, sustainable agriculture.

Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dipak Sinha served as the chief guest. He pushed for interdisciplinary research. "He also urged students and researchers to become change-makers who can address emerging challenges related to food security, sustainability and rural livelihoods." Dr. Girish Patil S, director of the ICAR-National Research Centre on Mithun, acted as the guest of honor. He argued for stronger scientific research and climate-resilient systems.

The session also featured remarks from MY Bharat representative Kapuozo Kapuh and Medziphema ADC James Swu. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Jagadish K. Patnaik provided a video message. A panel of experts including Prof. T. Gohain, Dr. Ashwini Ananda, Dr. Aabon W. Yanthan, Dr. Kathiravan Periasamy, Dr. Sapunii Stephen Hanah, and Dr. Bodevi Shuya explored digital services and entrepreneurship. Students closed the event by presenting technical research on smart farming, rural start-ups, and empowerment strategies.
