Aizawl: Mizoram officials are tightening their grip on security ahead of the Christmas and New Year holidays. Home Minister K. Sapdanga chaired a high-level meeting in Aizawl on Thursday to coordinate enforcement across state departments. The plan aims to keep the peace while curbing drug and alcohol-related crime.
Sapdanga pushed for a unified front among stakeholders. "Collective efforts were essential to maintaining a peaceful atmosphere throughout the festive season," he said. The strategy leans on collaboration between police, the Excise and Narcotics Department, the Aizawl Municipal Corporation, and the Central Young Mizo Association.
Police will launch Operation Peace Christmas and New Year to beef up security. Aizawl Superintendent of Police Zosangliana confirmed the city is now split into four distinct zones and 18 sectors. This layout ensures tighter control and quicker response times.
Anti-drug efforts remain a top priority. Authorities are continuing Operation Jericho-2. Meanwhile, Excise and Narcotics Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar praised recent progress against trafficking under Operation Trident. To keep manpower levels high, Commissioner Z. Lalhmangaiha confirmed that department leave is restricted. Both trainees and veteran staff will hit the streets.
The government is also adding layers of protection for the upcoming Winter Festival. Round-the-clock surveillance at sensitive spots will ramp up immediately. The focus is simple: stop crime before it starts.
