Aizawl: A 31-year-old Central Reserve Police Force constable shot himself dead while on duty at the Mizoram Governor's official residence, Lok Bhavan, in Aizawl. Sudhir Swami pulled the trigger of his service rifle around 10 am on November 5. He was stationed at Gate No. 2 at the time of the incident.

The force is scrambling for answers. Police have not determined a motive for the shooting. Authorities moved the body to Aizawl Civil Hospital to perform a post-mortem examination. His remains will head to his home in Rajasthan's Jaipur district this Friday.

Aizawl Police Station filed a case of unnatural death. Officers seized his service rifle and mobile phone to build a timeline of the event. Swami joined the CRPF in 2023. He served with F Company of the 225 Battalion and spent roughly one year in Mizoram. Police said, "The motive behind the incident was not immediately known." The investigation continues.
