Aizawl: The Election Commission launched a Special Summary Revision of electoral rolls on November 5 across six states and Union Territories. The rollout targets Arunachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, Mizoram, Odisha, and Sikkim. Draft rolls hit the streets November 30. The final counts arrive January 21, 2027.

This drive nets young and first-time voters. It allows advance applications for anyone turning eligible by April 1, July 1, or October 1, 2027. The commission demands field verification for all entry deletions. Electoral Registration Officers must personally audit cases where deletions top two percent of a station or one objector files over five complaints.

Aadhaar remains optional. The commission stated, "No application for enrolment can be rejected, and no existing entry can be deleted, solely because an applicant or elector fails to provide Aadhaar details." Officials must provide Aadhaar data on forms 6 and 8 on a purely voluntary basis.

The commission previously started a similar revision for 17 other states on October 15, covering Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Manipur, Goa, and Punjab. They are now handing readable PDFs to political parties instead of older image files. Chief secretaries must supply enough staff and gear to finish the job.
