Kohima: Nagaland Chief Electoral Officer Bhagyashree Banayat pushed political parties on Thursday to name booth-level agents for the upcoming Special Intensive Revision of the state electoral rolls. The CEO met with BJP, INC, and Naga People’s Front officials in Kohima to coordinate the process. Training and printing kick off August 5. They run through August 14.
Deputy Commissioners for Tuensang and Phek, Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa and Rhosietho Nguori, confirmed the timeline for their districts. The Election Commission of India set the qualifying date for October 1, 2026. Booth Level Officers start house-to-house visits on August 16. These visits end September 14. During this time, officers will distribute enumeration forms and collect them for verification.
Officials aim to keep polling stations under 1,200 voters each. They set the rationalisation deadline for September 14. The draft roll goes public September 20. Citizens have until October 20 to file claims or objections. Processing those files continues until November 18. The final electoral roll drops November 22, 2026.
The authorities are pushing for a clean count. Rhosietho Nguori stressed that the exercise is "participative, involving electors, political parties and election officials" while calling for cooperation to keep the final roll error-free.
