Naga Group Slams State Government Over Interlocutor Demand

Kohima: The Working Committee of Naga National Political Groups hit back on Thursday against the Nagaland government. They slammed the push for a Union Minister-level interlocutor in the Indo-Naga peace process. The group called the demand an insult to the Naga conscience. It is a clear attempt to wreck talks that are already finished. Peace is on the line.

The committee described the state government's position as insensible and discourteous. These negotiations have already wrapped up. No further facilitators are needed. The group warned that state leaders are committing a grave crime by ignoring years of hard work. The statement read, "History will not forgive the saboteurs."

State officials are showing a bankruptcy of ideas. They are pushing an anti-national narrative instead of results. The Nagaland Legislative Assembly previously formed an opposition-less government to speed up a solution. The committee challenged these politicians to hold a special session to demand the implementation of the agreement. They should stop the theatrics.

If leaders want to negotiate, they must quit their government jobs. They should form a new party to handle these matters directly. The group noted that they provided a status paper on their proposed solution back in 2019. The state government ignored it. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Home Minister, and the Chief Minister already know the details of the Framework Agreement and the Agreed Position. Former Governor RN Ravi confirmed in the assembly on January 17, 2021, that talks reached a conclusion. The focus should be on the final signing.
