Agartala: BJP President Nitin Nabin announced a major leadership shakeup on August 17. The move follows his six months in the top job. The list includes eight new national general secretaries. Biplab Kumar Deb, the West Tripura MP and former chief minister, landed a spot on the powerful roster. He joins Smriti Irani, Sunil Bansal, Vinod Tawde, Gajendra Patel, Satish Poonia, Harish Dwivedi, and Sanjay Bhatia.

Northeast influence is climbing. Nagaland Rajya Sabha MP Phangnon Konyak and Assam leader Mriganka Deo Barman were named national secretaries. They join a secretariat including Sandeep Pathak, Anil Antony, Rohan Gupta, and Manoj Tigga. Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha praised the appointments. He said, "Under the guidance of Hon’ble PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji and Hon’ble National President- BJP Shri Nitin Nabin Ji, this energetic and experienced team will empower our karyakartas, strengthen the organization and accelerate our mission of Viksit Bharat."

The party tapped 13 national vice presidents. Former Rajasthan CM Vasundhara Raje and former Uttarakhand CM Tirath Singh Rawat made the cut. Ram Madhav and Baijayant Jay Panda are also on the list. Six of these 13 roles went to women. Piyush Goyal remains national treasurer. Tarun Chugh takes charge of the central office.

The youth and women wings have new leaders. Gujarat MP Hemang Joshi will lead the Yuva Morcha. Chhattisgarh MP Roop Kumari Choudhary will run the Mahila Morcha. Anil Baluni keeps his post as media convenor. Ashish Usha Agrawal, Pradeep Bhandari, and Siddharth Yadav serve as co-convenors. Deepak Mhaskey of Chhattisgarh takes over as social media convenor. The revamped team faces a 2027 electoral deadline. Uttar Pradesh heads to the polls then. A Union Cabinet shuffle may come next.

Biplab Kumar Deb brings a specific history to the general secretary slot. He took the reins as Tripura state president in 2016 and steered the party to end the 25-year Left Front dominance in 2018, later serving as chief minister until 2022.

The leadership also solidified its regional focus by naming Dr. Sambit Patra as Northeast Coordinator, with Rajiv Babbar serving as Joint Coordinator. Further internal shifts include retaining B.L. Santhosh as National General Secretary for Organization, with Shivprakash and Saudan Singh serving as Joint General Secretaries.

Beyond his stint as Tripura Chief Minister, Deb sharpened his political edge by running party campaigns in Haryana and West Bengal. These efforts proved successful, yielding victories in both regions.

The central leadership also firmed up its Northeast presence by creating a dedicated regional desk. Dr. Sambit Patra steps in as the Northeast Coordinator, backed by Delhi leader Rajiv Babbar in the role of Joint Coordinator.

Rounding out the central hierarchy, B.L. Santhosh remains the National General Secretary for Organization. Shivprakash and Saudan Singh will support him as Joint General Secretaries.
