Tripura Opposition Leader Accuses BJP of Weaponizing Religious Slogans

Agartala: Tripura Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury accused the ruling BJP on August 30 of weaponizing nationalist and religious slogans to terrorize political rivals. Speaking at a Democratic Youth Federation of India blood donation camp in Agartala, he claimed party offices and private homes are under siege. He argued that the use of these chants during violent acts proves the ruling party is, in his words, "scared and terrified."

Chaudhury questioned if chanting slogans like Bharat Mata Ki Jai provides a moral cover for vandalism. He further alleged that agitators frequently use the Jai Shri Ram slogan while targeting the residences of opposition supporters. The politician invoked the state's volatile era between 1988 and 1992, specifically citing the murder of educationist and public representative Dr. Ajit Roy Chowdhury as a grim historical parallel. He noted that Chowdhury remains a symbol of fighting injustice.

The Left Front plans to keep pushing on issues like constitutional rights, youth unemployment, and farmer protections. Chaudhury condemned recent comments from BJP leaders made on social media and within the Assembly as crossing all acceptable democratic boundaries. He ordered party workers to ignore the intimidation. They must take their campaign to the streets. The Left will not retreat.
