Nagaland Election Officials Launch Intensive Electoral Roll Revision

Kohima: Nagaland election authorities have initiated a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls ahead of the 2026 cycle. Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer (DEO) of Dimapur, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang, met with village and town council leaders on August 5 to coordinate the effort. The process aims to capture every eligible voter.

Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will move door-to-door from August 16 to September 14 to distribute and collect Enumeration Forms. Dr. Chang urged residents to have passport-size photos ready for verification. "The meeting aimed to facilitate discussions and ensure the effective implementation of the SIR process," officials stated. Stakeholders, including Village Development Boards and Gaon Buras, must assist in publicizing the drive and ensuring residents stay home during the check.

Assistant Election Officer Toshimongba Longchar detailed the timeline. The draft electoral roll drops September 20. Residents have until October 20 to file claims or objections. Hearings run through November 18, with the final list published November 22. October 1, 2026, serves as the qualifying date for all registrants.

In Kiphire, the DEO confirmed a separate preparatory phase running through August 14. This window includes training officials and setting up help desks. BLOs will also work to rationalize polling stations, capping them at 1,200 electors each to avoid overcrowding. Those facing mapping issues or data discrepancies should visit their Electoral Registration Officer with required documentation. For further assistance, citizens can call the toll-free helpline 1950 or use the ECINET platform.
