Kohima: Election officials in Nagaland are launching a Special Intensive Revision of the electoral rolls to clean up voter data. The Election Commission of India set October 1, 2026, as the qualifying date. This effort aims to purge ineligible names and catch every eligible voter. Officials operate under the directive: "No eligible citizen is left out. No ineligible person is included."

Deputy Commissioners for Tuensang and Phek, Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa and Rhosietho Nguori, confirmed the timeline. Preparation began August 5 and runs until August 14. Booth Level Officers will start house-to-house visits on August 16. These visits continue until September 14. Officers will distribute and collect enumeration forms during these rounds. If a house is locked, agents will leave a notice and return three times. Voters can also submit forms online via the voter portal or the Chief Electoral Officer website.

Polling stations face strict scrutiny. Rationalization ends September 14 to cap stations at 1,200 electors. The draft roll drops September 20. The public has until October 20 to file claims or objections. Final processing runs through November 18. Publication of the final rolls hits on November 22, 2026.

Assistant Election Officer Chisho Swu led an awareness session in Kohima for schools and colleges on August 6. He noted this marks the first intensive revision since 2004. Problems like deceased voters remaining on lists and migration-related double-counting forced the move. Nodal officers and campus ambassadors must now mentor students to ensure local accuracy. Nine colleges and 12 schools joined the briefing.
