Kohima: Nagaland election officials have kicked off a Special Intensive Revision of the state electoral roll. The Election Commission of India set October 1, 2026, as the qualifying date for the update. Chief Electoral Officer Bhagyashree Banayat confirmed that help desks and training programs are now active across all districts to ensure accuracy.

District Election Officers and Electoral Registration Officers in Tuensang and Phek are leading the effort. They must ensure no eligible citizen is missed and no ineligible person gets on the list. Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa of Tuensang and Rhosietho Nguori of Phek outlined a strict timeline. Teams will spend August 5 to August 14 on training and printing. Booth Level Officers will conduct house-to-house visits from August 16 to September 14. They will distribute and collect enumeration forms.

Polling stations undergo a rationalization process to stay under a 1,200-elector limit. The draft electoral roll drops on September 20. Officials will accept claims and objections through October 20. The final publication is set for November 22, 2026. Phek DC Rhosietho Nguori stressed the need for public input. He noted, "The exercise is participative, involving electors, political parties and election officials."

The state has activated a toll-free helpline, 1950, for public use. Citizens can also find assistance at district offices or the official website at https://ceo.nagaland.gov.in. Banayat is currently holding review meetings with political parties and staff to monitor progress. Training sessions for Booth Level Agents and supervisors remain a priority to ensure the roll is error-free.
