Kohima Officials Push for Clean Voter Rolls

Kohima: Kohima Deputy Commissioner B Henok Buchem needs help cleaning up the voter list. He met with tribal and community leaders on August 12 to push for an accurate, updated electoral roll for the 2026 Special Intensive Revision. The Election Commission of India ordered the update. Buchem ran the meeting at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office.

The room held a mix of political party officials, the Angami Public Organization, and various tribal hohos. Members of the Kohima Masjid Committee and the Gorkha Public Panchayat Kohima also listened in. Buchem made his stance clear. He said, "The electoral roll is the foundation of the democratic system."

He wants to get every eligible citizen on the books while kicking off anyone who does not belong. Sub-divisions and the main town already saw earlier awareness meetings. Assistant Election Officer Chisho Swu gave a presentation on the revision process before the group opened the floor for questions. Buchem now expects these local leaders to spread the word to the grassroots level to ensure the data remains precise.
