Minister Chang pledges aid following Tuensang landslides

Kohima: Minister for Housing and Mechanical Engineering P Bashangmongba Chang visited landslide-hit areas in Tuensang on Thursday. He inspected Post Office Sector A ward and IOC Colony to survey the damage. The minister brought a high-level delegation, including the Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police, and local disaster management officials. No one died. Monsoon rains destroyed houses and displaced several families across the region.

Chang met with affected families and ward union leaders at his home that evening. He expressed regret for his delayed arrival due to official business. The minister promised help. "My family and the Government of Nagaland, led by Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio, stand firmly in solidarity with them during this period of crisis," Chang stated.

The minister handed out financial aid to 63 households. He blamed poor drainage systems for the recurring landslides throughout the town. Chang ordered the District Administration to push for better drainage networks in risky zones. He warned residents to stop prioritizing home construction over public infrastructure. The minister asked citizens to take collective responsibility instead of waiting on the government. He thanked local groups, the SDRF, and union leaders for their rapid evacuation efforts. The event ended with a prayer and remarks from BJP Mandal 53 AC leader Pukho Khiamniungan.
