Kohima: Nagaland released 70 lakh rupees to help families hit by flash floods and landslides in Mon district. The cash comes from the State Disaster Response Fund. Deputy Commissioner Wennyei Konyak confirmed the funds cover death compensation, medical bills, and destroyed homes. The disaster claimed nine lives and damaged roads, bridges, and houses across the region.
Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio added 10 lakh rupees to back local volunteers, the district hospital, and civil society groups. These groups help with search and rescue. Wennyei Konyak promised total support for those reeling from the loss. He said, "The district administration stands firmly with those affected and is committed to providing all possible assistance during the recovery process."
Recovery efforts move forward across the district. Agencies including the NSDMA, district police, SDRF, 42 Assam Rifles, Territorial Army, and local councils are working the ground. Groups like the Konyak Union, KNSK, and KSU also join the push to restore services. Officials urge residents to stay away from rivers and landslide zones during the monsoon.
Support pours in from across the state. Kuki Inpi Nagaland expressed grief for the Mon victims and concern for flood damage in Tuli, Mokokchung. The Yimkhiung Akherü Arihako noted the tragedy struck on the night of July 19. Both groups thanked the security forces, churches, and medical staff for their work. They also called for public unity as the monsoon threat persists.
