Kohima: The Chakhesang Public Organisation (CPO) is pushing back against the Nagaland government over plans to move jobs from Phek district. The group claims it learned through credible and reliable sources that sanctioned posts and staff are heading to the new Deputy Commissioner office in Meluri. The CPO demands an immediate recall of these orders. They argue that the government cannot justify strengthening one district by diminishing the sanctioned strength, institutional capacity, and administrative infrastructure of another.
This tribal body acknowledges the state can create new districts. However, they insist that growth must not come at the cost of weakening Phek. The CPO does not object to routine transfers of personnel dictated by service rules. They do object to moving the actual sanctioned posts. The group wants the state to create new, independent posts for Meluri instead of gutting Phek to fill the gap.
Phek faces a personnel crisis. The Office of the Deputy Commissioner and local sub-divisional offices already lack sufficient staff. The CPO warns that stripping away more roles will cripple daily operations. They fear that this policy will hurt the delivery of public services across the region. The group intends to defend the district headquarters using all legitimate and democratic means while calling for fairness and equity.
