Major Landslide Shuts Down NH-29 in Phek District

Kohima: A massive mudslide wiped out a large stretch of paddy fields below National Highway 29 at Mesulumi Village on Wednesday. The destruction hit Phek district hard. Following the slide, Deputy Commissioner Rhosietho Nguori shut down all vehicular movement along the affected stretch between Chainage 78+000 and 79+836. This area sits under Package-IV of the Kohima-Jessami Road.

Public safety demands this closure. Authorities directed the construction firm, Keystone Infra Pvt. Ltd, to clear the debris immediately. The DC stated, "This advisory shall remain in force until further notice."

Commuters must find other ways to travel. Heavy and light motor vehicles should use the Pfutsero Town-Porba-Sakraba-Middle Khomi-Phek Village-Lanezho road. Light motor vehicles also have the option of the Pfutsero Town-Tsupfume-Thetsumi-Chizami route. Crews have already cleared smaller landslides on the Phek-Pfutsero road, but this major blockage remains off-limits.
