Kohima: Phek Deputy Commissioner Rhosietho Nguori ordered a full shutdown of the Kohima-Jessami Road on September 5. Two major landslides struck the highway near Mesulumi village at chainage 78+000 and 79+836. The closure covers the Package-IV section of NH-29. Authorities pulled the plug on all traffic for ten days to ensure public safety.
Construction crews have a deadline. Keystone Infra Pvt. Ltd. must finish clearing the debris before the restriction ends. The DC expects the firm to move fast. Commuters face major detours while workers dig out the mountain.
Drivers of heavy and light motor vehicles must divert through the Pfutsero Town-Porba-Sakraba-Khomi-Phek Village-Lanezho road. Those operating smaller unit motor vehicles have a separate path. They must use the Pfutsero Town-Tsupfume-Thetsumi-Chizami route. The advisory states that "all vehicular movement along the aforementioned stretch of NH-29 shall remain suspended for road clearance and in the interest of public safety for a period of 10(ten) days with effect from the date of issue of this advisory."
