Kohima: Kohima District Magistrate B Henok Buchem banned heavy commercial vehicles from a sinking road stretch near Phesama. The damage sits between Chainage Km 191+840 and Km 192+100. Constant monsoon rains triggered land subsidence and debris falls. The road is unsafe. Traffic is a mess.

Police will stop trucks headed for Manipur or Jakhama at Peducha in the Sechu Zubza subdivision. Authorities plan to release the traffic in phases as crews fix the road. District Magistrate B Henok Buchem stated the affected area has "become unsafe due to road subsidence and intermittent landslides."

Drivers moving toward Manipur must take an alternate route through Peren district. For urgent travel, the administration pointed motorists to the Kohima-Jessami and Chakhabama-Zunheboto roads. Light vehicles keep using the Phesama-Kisama-Kigwema diversion through the Rhododendron Resort, which remains open for two-way traffic.

The National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited, or NHIDCL, PMU-Jakhama, must now focus on repairs. They are sending in maximum machinery and manpower to clear debris and stabilize the slope. Officials warned pedestrians to stay away from the landslide zone entirely.
