Officials Eye Fixes for Phesama Sinking Zone on NH-2

Kohima: Kohima officials inspected the Phesama Sinking Zone on July 30. The stretch covers Chainage Km 191+840 to Km 192+100 on the Kohima-Mao section of National Highway-2. Deputy Commissioner B Henok Buchem led the team alongside Senior Superintendent of Police Krodi Rhetso. Representatives from the District Administration, PWD, NHIDCL, Southern Angami Public Organization, and Phesama Village Council joined them.

The group reviewed current road conditions to keep traffic moving safely. They will station heavy machinery at the site to clear debris as it falls. Workers will also install two lighting units and traffic warning placards at both ends of the zone. This aims to spot rockfalls and warn drivers. Police will monitor the site to regulate traffic flow.

Debris removal remains a daily task. The crew will hold a full-day clearance drive this Sunday from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Deputy Commissioner B Henok Buchem urged night travelers to pick the alternative route through Kisama instead. "The DC also urged officials stationed at the affected stretch to remain in constant communication with the District Administration and the Police," a DIPR report stated.

Field staff have the power to shut the road if conditions turn dangerous. Safety comes first. Officials must keep the lines of communication open to handle emergencies quickly.
