Hazardous Conditions Plague NH-2 Alternative Road in Kohima

Kohima: Drivers face a nightmare on the NH-2 alternative route at Dzüphileiyi. Located in Phesama village, the road is crumbling fast. Rain turns the stretch into a trap of deep mud and jagged potholes. Travel has slowed to a crawl. The road is dangerously narrow. Passing vehicles are a gamble, frequently leading to gridlock and vehicles getting stuck.

Commuters warn that a mechanical failure on this terrain could trigger a fatal accident. Many drivers report frequent vehicle damage caused by the rough surface. One commuter told the Nagaland Post: "The poor condition of the road, coupled with its narrow and uneven stretches, could lead to serious accidents if a vehicle suffers a mechanical failure while negotiating the route."

The Phesama Youth Organization issued a mandate requiring trucks to carry only half loads. Nobody is listening. Heavy vehicles continue to ignore these weight limits, ignoring the strain placed on the failing infrastructure. This disregard for safety rules is accelerating the road's decay and pushing the limits of those trying to pass through.
