Kohima: The Kohima District Magistrate ordered a 10-hour shutdown of the National Highway-2 Kohima-Mao section on Tuesday, August 4. The road closes from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Crews need to clear the Phesama sinking area. Boulders are falling. The National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited, or NHIDCL PMU Jakhama, reported dangerous debris between Chainage Km 191+840 and Km 192+100.

Heavy motor vehicles face a total suspension during these hours. Manipur-bound heavy vehicles must take the route through Peren District. Light motor vehicles get a detour. Traffic will flow through Kisama-Kigwema and pass the Phesama Rhododendron Resort for two-way movement. Drivers facing emergencies can use the Kohima-Jessami or Chakhabama-Zunheboto roads, provided they stay within load limits.

District Magistrate B. Henok Buchem issued the mandate to protect commuters. He requested public support to finish the repairs. Buchem stated, "extend full cooperation during the temporary closure to enable the smooth execution of restoration works and ensure the safety of commuters."
