Kohima: The District Election Office in Zunheboto summoned Booth Level Agents to the Deputy Commissioner's conference hall on July 17. Officials want a cleaner voter list. Assistant Election Officer Bisalee Thonger oversaw the meeting, highlighting that this marks the first special revision of electoral rolls since 2005.
Thonger clarified the difference between Census data and election lists for the attendees. He stressed that voters should not link this process to government grants or local development projects. The work focuses strictly on confirming eligibility for the ballot box. "India being a democracy gives the right to vote to all citizens and recognised political parties have the right to appoint BLAs for maintaining the purity of electoral rolls."
The district manages 211 polling stations. Agents now hold the responsibility of identifying and scrubbing duplicate names from the records. They must ensure the rolls remain accurate ahead of the upcoming scheduled revision.
