Kohima: CaveMEN Production teamed up with Colours Graphic and Acoustic Wave to host October Roots Vol-1 2026. The concert hit the State Academy Hall in Kohima on October 19. It brought raw talent to the spotlight. The stage featured a mix of indie, pop-rock, punk, classic rock, and progressive rock.
Soloists Athong LK, Kongkhao Shiu, and Gladys led the charge alongside bands AFTERTONE, WAY UP, White Riot, Shoelace Untied, and DCY. Old School Nagaland served as the guest band. The ensemble includes Moa Imchen on lead vocals, Lichen Kichu on lead guitar, Yanger Imchen on bass guitar, and Kilang Walling on drums and vocals. Sheduto of Fifthnote and Choseo of Ntdote made special guest appearances to support the lineup.
Athong LK pushes Yimkhiung-language music with tracks like “NÜ LANG (Only You)” and “Amüzho.” He uses these songs to protect cultural identity. Kongkhao Shiu, a 20-year-old performer, brought experience from the Hornbill Festival and You Got the Voice Nagaland Season 2. Kohima resident Gladys rounded out the solo acts. The bands showcased deep roots in friendship. WAY UP is a five-member indie pop-rock group from Kohima. AFTERTONE grew from casual jam sessions between friends. White Riot pulls from classic rock while Shoelace Untied brings punk energy. The band DCY, or Dream Carries You, formed earlier this year to push musical expression.
Medoviu Martin Suohu, a councillor for Ward-19 of the Kohima Municipal Council, sponsored the event. Organizers hope the concert helps young artists build connections in a tough industry. They believe these local platforms provide the necessary space for homegrown talent to grow. The organizers stated, “The event also underscored the potential of local music platforms to nurture homegrown talent while encouraging creative expression and promoting Nagaland’s diverse musical identity.”
