Kohima: Nagaland made its mark at the 12th India Film Festival of Alberta. The state delegation shared its music and traditions with Canadian audiences to build global creative ties. The Nagaland Folkloric Group, led by Seyievinuo Chuzo, performed on 7 October 2026 at the Michael J. Fox Theatre in Vancouver. The group earned a standing ovation during the event, which was hosted by the Consulate General of India. They mixed traditional Naga sounds with modern beats to show how their art evolves.
Cultural exchange remained a priority. The delegation met with Powwow Times from the Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation to trade stories and music. The two groups discussed how tradition strengthens community identity. Later, the Edmonton City Council hosted a reception for the visitors. Consul General of India Masakui Rungsung and Festival Executive Director Madhan Selvaraj attended the event to bolster links between Nagaland and the Indian diaspora.
The government received the Golden Beaver Award on 10 October 2026 for its contributions to arts and culture. Theja Meru, Chairman of the Task Force for Music and Arts, accepted the honor on behalf of Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio. Meru credited the Chief Minister for his support, stating: "He also expressed his sincere appreciation to Masakui Rungsung and Madhan Selvaraj for their valuable support and contributions towards making the delegation’s visit a grand success." This appearance marks a push to move Nagaland’s identity onto the world stage.
