Landowners Blast Railway Department Over Continued Eviction Notices

Kohima: The Railway Affected Landowners’ Association is fighting back. On August 17, Senior Advisor S. Hukavi Zhimomi blasted the Railway department for repeatedly issuing eviction orders to landowners in Dimapur. Zhimomi claims these notices violate standing court orders and equate to contempt of court. He called the department's behavior "unacceptable and immature" while the state government works to settle the dispute.

A state-formed High Power Committee is currently reviewing land concerns. This group is analyzing patta lands and historical records to potentially drop court cases if compensation is paid. Zhimomi insists the process requires time and cooperation. He noted that valid claims must include specific details like Mouza, Dag, and Patta numbers. Without these records, he labeled land claims as fake. Regarding village areas on non-cadastral land, he stated that local village authorities must be consulted before any final report goes to the government.

The association is done waiting. Zhimomi warned that the department must stop its unilateral actions or face the consequences. "If it continues, the RALOA will not be a silent spectator anymore and shall fight for our legitimate right," he stated. He added that the Railway department will bear full responsibility for any future escalation if they refuse to seek a real solution.
