Kohima: Advisor for Airways and Railways, A. Pongshi Phom, toured Dimapur Railway Station and Dimapur Airport on July 20 to inspect construction progress. He aimed to identify practical solutions for infrastructure hurdles.
Phom chaired a review meeting at the railway station regarding the proposed Modern Railway Station under Phase-I. Attendees included Additional Secretary of the A.I.R. Cell, Thsuvisie Phoji, Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang, and OSD M. Ababe Ezung. The group evaluated construction work and flagged urgent priorities.
The focus shifted later to Dimapur Airport. Phom met with Airports Authority of India officials, including Airport Director Moa Pongen, to talk about expansion challenges. The group tackled specific operational problems: land acquisition, runway development, garbage disposal, and waterlogging. These issues stall growth.
Nagaland has only one airport. Phom told officials: "The State Government and AAI must work in close coordination to resolve pending issues and expedite development."
Pongen briefed the Advisor on the history of the facility. He requested continued state support to clear land-related roadblocks and meet basic expansion requirements. Phom promised to relay these concerns to the competent authorities for follow-up.
