Shillong: Meghalaya election officials finished the house-to-house enumeration for the 2026 Special Intensive Revision, reaching 100% of the state's 23,49,645 electors. The massive exercise wrapped up on July 29. Digitization efforts confirmed that 7,75,337 voters matched the 2005 baseline directly. Another 11,69,670 voters linked their records through lineage as progeny of parents or grandparents.
Hard work remains. Roughly 2.24 lakh residents now face scrutiny. Officials placed 2,24,234 voters in a No Mapping category because their records failed to link with the 2005 database. These individuals must prove their status during a verification window running from August 5 to October 3.
Chief Electoral Officer BDR Tiwari confirmed that 1,80,404 voters fall under Absent, Shifted, Deceased, or Duplicate (ASDD) labels. This list includes 81,490 deceased individuals, 45,013 unreturned forms, 42,532 permanently shifted residents, 6,701 duplicate entries, and 4,668 people who refused to participate. The department will process these cases using the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960. They must provide due process.
Tiwari praised the support from political parties and their Booth Level Agents for boosting transparency. He specifically credited the cooperation of Nokmas, village authorities, and community leaders for the total coverage. The Election Commission of India also expanded the polling station count from 3,551 to 3,637 to improve access.
The state aims for a "clean, accurate and inclusive Electoral Roll" before the draft publication on August 5. Officials urged any remaining electors to use the ECINET App or portal to submit forms immediately. Failure to comply will result in exclusion from the upcoming draft. The agency is pushing for accuracy.
