Shillong: Election officials in Meghalaya scrubbed 1,510 ineligible voters from the records during a Special Intensive Revision. Chief Electoral Officer BDR Tiwari confirmed the news on October 6. These individuals provided documents that were not in order. Nearly 20 lakh people made the final cut.
The state draft electoral roll originally listed 21,69,243 electors. Officials generated notices for 6,51,735 people to verify their status. They successfully delivered 6,51,391 of those notices to residents. Authorities finished hearings for 6,13,512 cases, which hits 94.14 percent of the issued notices.
Tiwari said, "As many as 1,510 voters have been found ineligible for inclusion in Meghalaya's final electoral rolls following hearings under the ongoing Special Intensive Revision." Officials tagged 19,96,297 electors for inclusion in the final registry. This count includes 2,22,786 voters previously marked under a No Mapping category. The office will publish the final electoral roll on October 26.
