Aizawl: Mizoram police kicked off the second phase of Operation Jericho on October 30. The anti-drug campaign aims to choke off narcotic shipments before the festive season hits. Director General of Police Sharad Agarwal oversaw the launch at the Aizawl headquarters. Personnel from the first, third, and fifth battalions of the Mizoram Armed Police and the first Indian Reserve Battalion are leading the effort.

District Superintendents of Police hold authority over the daily supervision of this operation. The first phase started on September 1 of last year through a partnership with the Excise and Narcotics Department and the Central Young Mizo Association. Deployment covered 22 villages along the India-Myanmar border in Champhai district. Between the start and March 31, authorities seized narcotics worth roughly Rs 391.95 crore, booked 203 cases, and arrested 298 people. Local police kept the momentum going after the dedicated teams pulled back.

By October 26, the ongoing effort grew to 447 registered cases. Officials confirmed 663 arrests and total seizures valued at Rs 843.47 crore. Operation Jericho-2 leans heavily on border vigilance and intelligence. Officials stated the campaign aims to "dismantle trafficking networks operating across the state" while relying on community tip-offs. State authorities want the public to report any peddling or drug-related activity immediately to stop the flow of illegal goods.
