Aizawl: Mizoram authorities wiped out Rs 70.70 lakh worth of illegal drugs on Monday. The disposal occurred at the Serchhip Police Station under the watchful eye of District Drugs Disposal Committee Chairman Gavit Gogna. Crews destroyed 220 grams of heroin and 89 grams of crystal methamphetamine. These substances were seized across seven different cases throughout the 2025-26 financial year.

Methamphetamine, often called the "crazy drug," remains a major target for state law enforcement. The state sits right against international borders with Myanmar and Bangladesh. It is a prime transit path for smugglers. Police have clearly stepped up their game.

Data for the first six months of 2026 shows a massive surge in enforcement. Police seized over Rs 414.66 crore in drugs and arrested 312 people. This total includes 57 foreign nationals caught in the net. The state remains a high-stakes frontline in the national drug war.

Breakdowns of the 2026 haul show the scale of the trade. Officers recovered 315.903 kg of methamphetamine worth Rs 252.72 crore, leading to 62 arrests including 16 foreign nationals. Heroin seizures reached 34.923 kg valued at Rs 69.85 crore with 211 arrests. Authorities also pulled in 20.628 kg of crystal meth, 22.286 kg of morphine, 141.492 kg of opium, 60.681 kg of ganja, 214.4 kg of codeine, and 30 kg of alprazolam.
