Aizawl: Chief Minister Lalduhoma moves a resolution this Thursday to make Ro Min Relsak Ang Che the official Mizoram state song. The House plans to adopt the measure following member debates. The state Cabinet greenlit this formal designation during an August 10 meeting.
Renowned Mizo writer and composer Rokunga wrote the song in 1947. Its title translates to Be Thou our Counsellor. The Mizo National Front declared it their anthem during the insurgency era. It has acted as a de facto anthem for decades despite lacking official status. In 2022, the MNF-led government ordered schools to sing it daily. An official noted: "The resolution is expected to be adopted by the House following deliberations among the members."
Lawmakers have a busy schedule. The Assembly session also covers two amendment bills and new legislation. This includes The Mizoram (Land Survey and Settlement Operation) Bill, 2026. The House intends to pass these measures before adjourning sine die Thursday evening.

The House unanimously passed the resolution Thursday. Chief Minister Lalduhoma noted that 14 other states already maintain their own anthems and confirmed the move does not conflict with national symbols. He explained the lyrics frame God as the ultimate ruler and a source of strength for the land.
The General Administration Department will draft a code for proper use of the song. Lalduhoma instructed that citizens should stand with their right hand over their heart during performances, maintaining a prayerful and reverent spirit.

Lalduhoma argued the song serves as a prayer for divine protection and righteous governance, viewing the composition as a call to build a kingdom guided by faith. He stated the lyrics portray God as the ultimate sovereign and King of kings.
The General Administration Department plans to issue formal guidelines for the song. Lalduhoma directed the public to observe a specific protocol during performances: stand, place your right hand over your heart, and maintain a prayerful, respectful tone.
