Aizawl: The Mizoram Cabinet officially adopted the devotional song Ro Min Rel Sak Ang Che as the state anthem on Monday, August 10. Chief Minister Lalduhoma led the meeting where ministers greenlit 24 separate proposals. The song, which means Be Thou our Counsellor, was written by Rokunga in 1947 and has served as a de facto anthem for decades. Schools already require students to sing it before class. The government will present a formal resolution during the monsoon session starting August 25.

Cabinet members also hammered out major bureaucratic shifts. They combined the Directorate of Land Revenue and Settlement with the Directorate of Registration and Stamps to simplify administration. Doctors in the Mizoram Health Service finally secured a payment structure for their Non-Practising Allowance. Officials also updated the 2010 New Defined Contributory Pension Scheme to boost benefits for National Pension System members.

Legislators cleared five major bills for the next session. The list includes the Mizoram Floodplain Zoning Bill, 2026, and the Mizoram Goods and Services Tax Second Amendment Bill, 2026. They also greenlit the Mizoram Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Facilitation and Promotion Bill, 2026, the Mizoram Industrial Area Amendment Bill, 2026, and the Mizoram Land Survey and Settlement Operation Bill, 2026.

The state will add six posts to the Mizoram Electricity Regulatory Commission and absorb 15 roles from the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission. Police officers assigned to the Mizoram Lokayukta Inquiry Wing will now collect a 12 per cent Special Incentive Allowance. The government also raised ad rates for local papers and regularized staff under the Mizoram State Commission for Protection of Child Rights.

The meeting took place at the Chief Minister Office in Aizawl. Records show the song was declared the national anthem by the underground Mizo National Front government during the insurgency period. Ministers also confirmed the immediate appointment of Benjamin L. Tlumtea as the chairperson of the electricity commission.
