Aizawl: The Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee wants an urgent special session of the State Assembly. They aim to pass a resolution against the Foreign Contribution Regulation Amendment Bill of 2026. On Thursday, party president Lal Thanzara submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Lalduhoma. The document labels this legislative battle a matter of utmost importance.
Former MLA John Siamkunga claims previous BJP-led government changes to the law already choked foreign funding for local groups. He warns the new bill will hurt Christians and NGOs across Mizoram even further. The party demands the state government stop stalling. They want a public stance immediately.
The Congress also called for a high-level delegation to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This group should include church leaders, political figures, and NGO representatives to demand the bill be withdrawn. Additionally, the party expects both of the state’s Members of Parliament to vote against the legislation when it reaches the floor in New Delhi.
Congress leaders say they want the state to unite to protect its land, people, and faith. They remain frustrated that the government has stayed silent while local churches have already begun holding prayer meetings regarding the proposed changes.
