Aizawl: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma will challenge the Centre over proposed amendments to the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act. He identified specific provisions in the legislation as unacceptable to the state. These changes threaten to shake up local operations.
Lalduhoma shared the news on July 24 while visiting Kawrthah North village in Mamit district. The village just won the first prize in the Clean and Green Panchayat category of the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar 2025. The government intends to meet with the Council of Churches in Mizoram and the Mizoram Kohhran Hruaitute Committee this Saturday. They need a unified stance.
The Chief Minister stated, "We have found certain provisions in the proposed FCRA amendment which are not acceptable to us. Following consultations with church leaders, we will place our views before the Centre."
Pressure is mounting from local political rivals. The Mizoram Congress recently delivered a memorandum demanding a special Assembly session to pass a formal resolution against the Foreign Contribution Regulation Amendment Bill, 2026. They claim the rules will be detrimental to Christians and non-governmental organisations. The state government now prepares its official response to the Union Government.
