Agartala: Mizoram's ruling Zoram People's Movement will fight the proposed Foreign Contribution Regulation Act amendments. They demand the bill respect state interests. The party high command reached this firm decision during a meeting on August 5 at Chief Minister Lalduhoma's official residence. Minister of State and party media chairman B Lalchhanzova confirmed the position.
The Political Affairs Committee reviewed the legislation before setting their strategy. ZPM lawmakers hold the state's single seats in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. These representatives will block the bill if it fails to align with regional priorities. "Our two MPs will firmly uphold what we have decided. If the bill does not reflect our position, we will not support its passage in Parliament," Lalchhanzova said.
The ZPM remains a non-aligned force. They operate outside the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance and the Congress-led INDIA bloc. Chief Minister Lalduhoma rejected any formal alliance with the NDA back in June. He insisted the party prefers to maintain a national outlook while keeping its distinct identity as a regional player. The state government seeks cordial relations with the Centre but refuses to sacrifice policy stances to secure them.
