Agartala: Tripura Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath wants more rooftop solar panels. He addressed the Agartala Municipal Corporation Conference Hall on Monday to discuss installing solar plants via the ULA Model. Electricity demand is climbing fast. The state struggles to keep up as natural gas production drops.

Consumer numbers jumped from seven lakh to 10.68 lakh since the current government took charge. Nath noted that over four lakh households use 50 units or less each month. These people are economically vulnerable. The government wants to shield them from price hikes.

Gas shortages cripple major plants. The 700 MW Palatana plant now puts out only 500 MW. The Ramchandranagar plant produces 50 to 60 MW instead of its 100 MW target. Nath stated, "The government was committed to ensuring that the benefits of development reached economically weaker sections."

Uninterrupted power keeps hospitals and schools running. It keeps waste-management facilities moving too. The state and the Centre are pivoting toward renewables. Solar, wind, and hydropower offer cleaner alternatives to gas and coal. Future energy stability depends on these green sources.
