Road Blockades Halt Tripura Traffic Over Tiprasa Accord Demand

Agartala: Agitators crippled traffic across Tripura late Sunday night. They choked routes near Baramura hills and Hathai Kotor. Supporters of TIPRA Motha joined forces with surrendered insurgent groups from the NLFT and ATTF to demand immediate implementation of the Tiprasa Accord. Rain hammered the protest lines as the coalition pushed their agenda through blockades.

Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma stepped in to clear the gridlock. He spoke with representatives at the site. The Minister secured the withdrawal of the blockades by promising that the government would address their grievances within 72 hours. He told the crowd, "Their grievances would be addressed within 72 hours."

The move follows a hard line from TIPRA Motha leader Pradyot Kishore Deb Barma. He recently met with senior party leaders in Agartala to declare that the party will bypass any electoral deal with the BJP for the upcoming TTAADC Village Council elections unless the accord moves forward. This political standoff creates intense pressure on seat-sharing talks.

Surrendered insurgents have used this tactic before. They previously blocked roads and rail lines to demand action on the 2024 Tripartite Peace Agreement. While the latest withdrawal brings temporary relief to commuters, the demand for the accord remains a primary friction point in local politics. Police monitored the situation to prevent further escalation as the state waits for the government to act on its deadline.
