Agartala: Tensions hit a boiling point in the Melaghar Municipality as residents demand better services. Wards 7 and 8 suffer the most. A 100-metre road connecting to the Melaghar-Sonamura main artery is now a hazard of deep potholes, thick mud, and standing water. Commuters face daily danger on the path.
Locals blame the municipal office for ignoring the rot while aggressively collecting taxes. Councillor Gurupada Roy has faced repeated calls for action, yet residents claim he has done nothing since his election. Promises made on the campaign trail remain unfulfilled.
Local women led a blockade on the road to force the city to listen. They refuse simple patches. They want a full rebuild and a working drainage system. One protester stated, "We are tired of paying taxes without receiving basic services. If the authorities continue to ignore us, we will escalate our movement."
The town is watching closely. Protesters warned they will march on the municipal office if their demands go ignored. For now, the town waits for a sign from Roy and local officials.
