Agartala: Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma stopped construction on the Rs 34 crore Teliamura to North Maharani GM Road project on Sunday. The Krishnapur MLA caught workers casting sidewalls without any supervising engineer on the site. He immediately ordered work to halt until an officer arrived.

He refused to let the job continue without proper oversight. "Without proper supervision, it is impossible to ensure standards. If construction is substandard, it is the common people who will suffer in the future," Debbarma said. He warned that public money demands top-tier results.

The minister told the construction agency to follow all technical norms during every phase. He insisted that engineers, contractors, and officials share the blame if infrastructure fails. Negligence is not an option.

Ranjit Sarkar, a Khowai Zilla Parishad member, joined the inspection. Also present were Gopal Das, Madan Mohan Saha, and Nirmal Sarkar from the BJP Khowai district committee. Local residents backed the sudden shutdown, hoping it signals a new era for state project integrity.
