Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha handed over keys to new homeowners near the Akhaura border on October 29. He inaugurated blocks A and F of the Agartala Lighthouse Project, securing housing for 278 families. Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal joined the ceremony through a virtual link.

This development adds to a wider goal of building 1,000 flats across seven blocks. Each unit measures about 30 square metres. These homes use Light Gauge Steel Frame technology to speed up work while keeping costs down. The government plans to finish the remaining blocks soon.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched this project to test new building methods in six cities nationwide. Saha noted that the project overcame several administrative and financial snags to reach this stage. He expects the rest of the units to arrive on schedule.

The Chief Minister focused on the human impact of the work. During his address, Saha said, "The project was aimed at providing more than just shelter, adding that permanent housing would help families secure a stable future and improve their quality of life." He called on the new residents to keep the area clean and manage the common amenities together.

The project specifically targets families from the economically weaker and low-income sectors. Each 30 square metre flat measures exactly 320 square feet.

Saha kicked off the ceremony by inspecting the two new blocks before the digital inauguration. He publicly thanked Union Minister Manohar Lal for clearing the bottlenecks that stalled the construction timeline.
