Guwahati: A local boy stumbled upon gas-filled balloons in a paddy field at Letekujan village on Friday morning. The balloons, which drifted down near an embankment, carried a flex banner promoting the youth wing of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party. The boy took the items home after finding them while tending to cattle in the Narayanpur Police Station area of Assam's Lakhimpur district.
The banner marked the 48th foundation anniversary of the Moulvibazar district unit of the Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal. It featured the images of three key figures: BNP leader and acting chairman Tarique Rahman, former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, and party founder Ziaur Rahman. Social media videos from across the border show similar balloons being released during the group's anniversary events.
Police from the Dhalpur Outpost arrived at the scene to recover the evidence. They have taken the banner and balloons into custody to begin a formal inquiry. Authorities are now working to track the flight path of the balloons to determine how they crossed the border. A local officer stated, "Police have begun an investigation to establish where the balloons came from and how they reached the village."
