Guwahati: Dima Hasao police stopped a massive illegal liquor shipment on October 29. The bust happened at Kelolo along National Highway 27 during a routine check. Officers pulled over a six-wheeler truck, registration number AS-26 AC 0693, as it moved through the area under the Haflong Police Station jurisdiction.

The haul was significant. Officers found 1,200 bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor originating from Meghalaya packed into 100 cartons. The total volume hit 900 litres with an estimated market value of Rs 8.91 lakh. Smugglers hid the booze under 50 plastic bags to dodge detection. "The seizure is part of Dima Hasao Police's ongoing efforts to curb the illegal transportation and trade of liquor in the hill district."

Police cuffed two suspects on the scene. They identified the men as 27-year-old Amir Hussain Laskar from Cachar and 18-year-old Aminul Haque Barbhuiya from Hailakandi. Law enforcement took the truck, its key, and two mobile phones into evidence. Officials filed charges under the Assam Excise Act, 2000, and moved the case into legal proceedings.
