Guwahati: Haflong is gearing up for its first-ever ethnic sports and cultural festival. The event, dubbed Ethnosphere 2026, hits the district on October 10. The Dima Hasao Students’ Organisation Co-ordination Committee is running the show. Organizers aim to bridge divides between the hill district's many communities. It is all about peace.
The day-long schedule packs in a marathon and traditional sports representing every local group. Attendees can hit up food stalls, check out traditional attire, and watch a cultural evening of dances. Organizers held a press conference in Haflong to detail the plans. They stated, "The festival aims to unite all communities living in the district and provide a common platform to showcase their unique cultural identities, promote cultural heritage, peace and brotherhood, and foster unity."
This is the first time the district has seen a festival of this specific scale and intent. The committee wants to build a lasting sense of brotherhood through shared heritage.
