Guwahati: The Dima Hasao Autonomous Council kicked off the Dara Disa Hamdaone Riphain initiative this Sunday. The Cultural Affairs Department aims to safeguard Dimasa cultural heritage while pushing for cleanliness and rural growth across more than 300 district villages. Council members and officials are already on the ground, touring sites to check conditions and track how the plan takes hold.
Villagers will hold weekly traditional dance sessions, host oral history storytelling hours, and work on handicrafts to keep local customs alive. These activities happen every weekend at village Baikho dance halls. Officials will visit each location twice a month to monitor the work, and the top-performing village will earn an award.
Chief Executive Member Debolal Gorlosa said the scheme seeks to encourage indigenous customs, traditional attire and the Dimasa way of life. The site visits give the government a chance to hear from residents and fix local problems. Gorlosa noted the evaluation style mirrors the state Gunotsav programme, ensuring clear oversight of how each village manages its heritage and infrastructure.
