Guwahati: Assam filmmaker Bhargav Saikia has shifted the release of his debut feature Bokshi to December 4, 2026. The film, previously slated for October 9, hit a wall with the Central Board of Film Certification. The Examining Committee flagged the project for gruesome violence, witchcraft, and supernatural themes. They bumped it to the Revising Committee for a deeper look.

The Revising Committee finally cleared the film with an A certificate and minor tweaks. Producers at Lorien Motion Pictures say this delay provides breathing room for the theatrical campaign and final preparations. Saikia, a native of Biswanath Chariali, filmed the movie on location in Sikkim. It blends folk horror with a coming-of-age mystery.

The plot tracks a troubled teenager named Anahita. A school trek to a prehistoric site forces her to confront an ancient legend as myth and reality collide. The film features Prasanna Bisht, Mansi Multani, and Siddharth Shaw, while Shernaz Patel provides the voice for Bokshi. It is a multilingual effort in Hindi, English, and Nepali. The production even incorporates Boksirit, a language built by Dutch linguist Jan van Steenbergen. Lorien Motion Pictures stated, "the film is the second Indian feature after Baahubali to feature a constructed language."

Bokshi already toured the global festival circuit. It premiered at the International Film Festival Rotterdam in 2025. It was the sole Indian feature selected for the 2025 editions of the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival in Spain, the Neuchâtel International Fantastic Film Festival in Switzerland, and SXSW Sydney in Australia. Harsh Vaibhav wrote the script and served as executive producer.
