Guwahati: Assam-born director Bhargav Saikia brings his debut feature film Bokshi to Indian theatres on October 9, 2026. This independent production from Lorien Motion Pictures follows a successful 2025 festival tour. The film debuted at the International Film Festival Rotterdam and played at major genre festivals including Sitges in Spain, Neuchâtel in Switzerland, and SXSW Sydney.
Saikia, a Biswanath native now living in Mumbai, founded Lorien Motion Pictures after studying at Whistling Woods International and The University of Manchester. He previously produced Kaafiron Ki Namaaz and directed shorts like The Black Cat, which earned two Critics’ Choice Short Film Award nominations. Bokshi marks his first feature-length project.
The story follows Anahita, a teenager who discovers an ancient legend during a school trip to a prehistoric site. Screenwriter Harsh Vaibhav penned the script. The film stars Prasanna Bisht, Mansi Multani, and Siddharth Shaw, with Shernaz Patel providing the voice for the titular character. Saikia said, "Crafted specifically for young audiences, Bokshi is a horror film made to be experienced on the big screen."
Bokshi utilizes Hindi, English, and Nepali. It also features Boksirit, a fully constructed language designed by Dutch linguist Jan van Steenbergen. This makes it the second Indian film after Baahubali to incorporate a fictional language. The production avoided heavy CGI, opting for practical effects and 80 days of filming in Sikkim’s dense forests.
The crew includes cinematographers A. Vasanth and Siddharth Sivasankaran, editor Himanshu Saikia, sound designer Dhiman Karmakar, and composer Advait Nemlekar. Sethumadhavan Napan handles the film’s distribution.
