Guwahati: Assam police broke up a Cockroach Janta Party demonstration stationed outside Janata Bhawan. Officers moved in after protesters gathered at the residence of Dudul Choudhury, a site directly across from the government complex that never received a permit. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed his administration cleared the area to prevent a disturbance.
Sarma claims the government already accommodated the party twice. Officials sanctioned an initial protest at a designated venue in Chachal. They later approved a second location following a request from the group. The party ignored these agreements and moved the event to the unauthorized spot near the administrative seat. Police arrested the workers on site.
Sarma defended the crackdown on the unauthorized gathering. He told reporters: "First of all, I gave permission to the government-designated place in Chachal. Then they asked for a second venue. I gave permission for the second venue as well." The Chief Minister stated that he acted because one individual wanted to stir up trouble. Authorities maintained that the group abandoned their approved locations to force a confrontation at the main gate.
