Guwahati: Dhubri Police intercepted 58 bovine animals from suspected smugglers across multiple locations in the district. The operation marks a win in the state's ongoing push to halt illegal cattle trafficking. Authorities remain on high alert for transport violations.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma applauded the force for their swift action. He took to social media to signal that authorities will not tolerate such crimes, especially during the current sacred month of Bhadra. "Daring to engage in cow smuggling in the sacred month of Bhadra? It won't fly, it won't fly," Sarma wrote.
Sarma credited the local officers for the recovery of the animals. He closed his statement by shouting "Jai Gau Mata, Jai Govinda." Enforcement efforts continue across Assam to stop illegal transport.

The crackdown hit South Salmara shortly after the Dhubri operation. Police seized 51 cattle and a boat during a river patrol, moving to block smuggling routes that use water instead of pavement. Officers took one suspect into custody during the raid.
Sarma confirmed the move on X, stating that enforcement will press forward across both land and river routes to choke off illegal transport.

In a separate shift for the state economy, Chief Minister Sarma announced the removal of all license requirements for petroleum products. The move aims to cut red tape for companies and push a business-friendly environment to draw fresh investment into the state.
