Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that state authorities destroyed narcotics worth Rs 300 crore during the first 100 days of his BJP-led government. The contraband went up in smoke at the state’s first dedicated incinerator in Daulasal, Nalbari district.
The crackdown remains relentless. Sarma posted on X, "Tick tock on the clock, the crackdown doesn’t stop. 100 days, 100% action." He promised that illegal networks have nowhere to hide.
Enforcement teams are moving fast. Over a 10-day period across nine districts, police seized Rs 472.51 crore in narcotics, including 30.7 kg of heroin and 5,499 kg of ganja. These operations are part of a broader "100 days of Surakshit Assam" initiative.
Sarma added, "Seizures, arrests, destruction of drug networks, we are sending one message loud and clear: There is no place to hide. We will catch you, that’s a promise."
The government is also targeting cattle smuggling. Police in Changsari recently rescued 55 cattle transported in cruel conditions. Officers seized three vehicles and three mobile phones, arresting four suspects. The Chief Minister stated that authorities will continue this push until the illegal trade is completely stamped out.
